Oh, yes, you do! You have the power to make your dreams come true! It may not always be an easy path, but if you can dream it, you have the power to do it. Dreams are as different and individual as each one of us. Some dreams are huge and take a lifetime of striving to fulfill like those of Olympians Michael Phelps and Simone Biles. Others may be less grandiose but are no less important such as a dream to learn a new trade or travel to a far-off land.

Why deny yourself one of the biggest sources of power at your disposal? And, it is free! It is sometimes daunting to think of the dedication and work needed to make a dream come true. The trick is that it is easier if you take it a step at a time. If you try to do it all at once you are likely to have a less than favorable outcome. But, if you use this as a step at a time approach you can make a dream into a reality.

Achievement is easier when you include the power of Spirit in your dream. Whatever your belief system, include it as a part of your dream creation. Make your Higher Power a part of your dream creation from the beginning. Your Higher Power can be there for you in the guise of determination, dedication and inspiration, not to mention supplying an essential component to completing a dream – hope!

The first step after including your Higher Power is likely the most important – taking that dream and looking at it critically – is it based in reality. If your dream is to create a unicorn farm where you can raise unicorns, you may have to adjust that dream to conform to genetic reality. Instead you could choose to raising horses that you can rig with a unicorn horn to wow the folks in the stands on holiday parades. When you look at your dream honestly and realistically, you can make the minor adjustments that allow you to take it from dream to a goal.

The second step in making a dream come true is to turn that dream – which is normally a really cool idea – into a concrete goal. A dream is an idea, a thought; something to wool gather about. A goal, however, is something to be achieved. A goal needs to be specific, have a time expectancy and be realistic. So, using the Unicorn Farm example, the goal could be: “I want to have a ranch where I can raise horses to dress with unicorn horns by July 2018.” This creates a goal that is achievable, clearly stated, and gives a timeframe for accomplishment.

The next step is a little more difficult. Now that you know what you want to do and the timeframe you want to do it in, it is time to figure out how to make it happen. This may take research, investigation, talking with others, and choosing what you feel is the best path towards your dream. It may seem like a drag, but it is your dream and if you are not doing the work to make it come true, who will? Taking the time to make lists and a plan of how you are going to achieve your dream is integral to your success.

The fourth step? Well, that is an easier one. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and your dream. This is important so that as you are working towards that dream you have supportive people around you. It is difficult to achieve success when you are working with naysayers. Having someone who can commiserate with you on a bad day can make a huge difference in your motivation and can keep you going, so get some friends on board

Step five. It is here that you dig in and do the actual physical work to make your dream come true. This could require a few days’ efforts, or it could be years. Keep your lists handy. You will be updating them – removing some items, and adding others. Try to do something every day to help take you a step closer to that dream in your heart. Some days it may be a simple prayer to your Higher Power to help get you back on track, and that is okay.

Do not forget to celebrate your achievements along the way! When you accomplish a milestone on the way to your dream, give that achievement the emphasis it is due. If you finally made that phone call you had been dreading, congratulate yourself for making it happen. On the other side, try not to let set-backs to let you down. Every no you find on your path is truly just an opportunity for you to be able to find an even better yes.

Those dreams that you choose to pursue and make happen are often your destiny calling. Now you have the steps – it is time to turn that dream into a reality. I love talking about turning dreams into realities in my Free Chat at DrNikkiPage
