| Marriage Requirements for Montana |

| Listed below are the requirements to be legally married in the state of Montana. |
1. ID Required: You have to have certified copies of the birth certificates of both the bride and groom. 2. No Residency Requirement: There is no residency requirement to be married in Montana. 3. Additional Requirements or Tests: At this time there is a test requirement in the State of Montana for the bride to be tested for rubella. (You may want to check with the State Office listed below as this requirement was under review by the State Legislature at the time of this writing.) 4. Waiting Period: There is no waiting period to get married in Montana if you are age 18 years or over. You can get married as |
| soon as you get your marriage license. (Hint: However, please be advised that many of the County Clerk of Court’s Offices stop taking public requests early on Friday afternoons – plan to get your license before 3:00 p.m. if you can!) 5. If you are divorced from a previous marriage you must bring a certified copy of the divorce decree in order to marry. 6. Fees – Currently it costs $53.00 (cash only) in order to obtain your marriage license. 7. Montana is one of the few states in the union that allows for Proxy Marriage. 8. Once you have obtained your marriage license, you have up to six months (180 days) in order to use it. If you do not marry before the license runs out, you can always get another license, however you will have to pay the fee again. 9. Other Information You Should Have: The application asks for specific information for you to supply including your Mother’s maiden name, the full names of both of your parents, and the state(s) in which parents were born. |
